“You too can come together” Don’t forget that Te Rōpū Whakahau sets aside putea every year for
the different rohe to come together to share, discuss, eat and have fun. Its really not that hard to
make it happen and its great way to introduce new Māori staff to Te Rōpū Whakahau, but also an
opportunity to let them know that there are others around.
Those of us in Te Tai Hauāuru came together recently in Whanganui to hear about the great things
Sandy Nepia (Pou Herenga/ Heritage & Community Services Manager) and Jasmin Ratana (Pou Whiria, Māori Information Librarian) have being doing, but also it was great to meet one of the new staff at Massey University.
Sandy and Jas updated us on Te Kāuru Access framework, that acknowledges the spirit of
partnership implicit in the Treaty of Waitangi by recognising the valued partnership between Library
and iwi for the delivery of services to Māori. This has been implemented for the last 10 years and
Sandy thought it would be timely to discuss reviewing where they are currently at and where they
could move to in the future.
As someone once told me if there is no kai involved its an email, we concluded our hui at Carolines
Boatshed, somewhat of an institution in Whanganui. Unfortunately our mates from Palmerston
North Libraries were unable to join us this time but I am sure will be there, or here, next time.
To make this happen, all it took was an email out to everyone, the toughest part was finding a date
but a littler perseverance from Sandy and it was all a go.
