Ngā Waiata mō Te Rōpū Whakahau

The following two songs were written especially for use by Te Rōpū Whakahau members. They are usually sung as waiata kinaki kōrero to support speakers for our rōpū at pōwhiri and other formal occasions. Please ensure that these songs are used appropriately.

He Waiata Mā Te Rōpū Whakahau –

Manaakitia rā nā Mikaere Kanawa, Te Rōpū Whakahau Hui-a-tau April 2011

Manaakitia rā ngā kohinga mātauranga
O te iwi, te hapū, te whānau, o te hunga tangata
Ngā kōrero āwhina, ngā kupu whakangungua
Hei ārahi i ngā tamariki mokopuna

Tahi mano, e iwa rau
iwa tekau mā waru
I rere ai te kōrero
Nō te haumiri o te uru
Te raukura e tākawe nei te rangi
Kimihia te kupu
Hei ‘tau i te kōrero
A tāne e
Mārama te kite
Te ara whāinga e
I a rātou mā
Kakama kapo i te ao
Rere ai te wai pene
Ko te rangi tēnā
Ko te whenua tēnā
Ko te iwi tēnā
Ko te reo tēnā
Te pō, te rā
Me te pono tonu ki a Io
Nō reira
Ko tēnei mātou
Ko Te Rōpū Whakahau
E mihi atu nei
He kaitiaki noa
I ngā taonga tuku iho a rātou mā
I waihotia ai hei ōranga mō te iwi
Nau mai haramai
Kua huaki te tatau o te whare
Whare ipurangi
Whare taonga
Whare pūpuru kōrero
Kimihia, tirohia, raweketia
Mā te kimi ka kite
Mā te kite ka mōhio
Mā te mōhio ka mārama
Kia whakatauki ake au
Kimihia te mea ngaro
Ngā kōrero nā ngā tūpuna
He taonga tuku iho
He taonga tuku iho, hi!

Te Kaha o te Aroha

E te iwi e
ānei ngā mihi nui
ki a koutou e mānaaki nei
i ngā taonga tapu.
Ko te aroha
me te tumanako
me te whakapono hoki
i tukua iho nei.
Mā te Arikinui
tātou katoa e ārahi
i roto i ngā mahi, mahi tupuna e.
Nāna i hōmai
te pounamu tapu rawa.
Kore e mutu ai te tangi nei
kōrero mai.
