Twenty years ago, Ngā Ūpoko Tukutuku Māori Subject Headings emerged from a shared vision to ensure te reo Māori and mātauranga Māori could be described and discovered in ways that reflect Māori worldviews. Since then, it has become a nationally significant knowledge organisation system with international influence. As the first Indigenous subject heading system founded on a Māori worldview, it established an enduring precedent for Indigenous knowledge organisation.
