Te Rōpū Whakahau recognises the value of Ngā Upoko Tukutuku and its relevance for library collections everywhere.  It is another practical initiative that supports the everyday use of te reo Māori and equitable access to print and digital information.  Te Rōpū Whakahau supports the following position statement:
Māori Subject Headings | Ngā Upoko Tukutuku is a list of Māori language subject terms that enables quality access and findability for te reo Māori language users and Te Ao Māori thinkers to items held in any collection, and is a valuable resource for all industries.

  1. Māori Subject Headings | Ngā Upoko Tukutuku terms should be applied to all items held in a collection and not limited to resources by, for and about Māori.
  2. Updated Māori Subject Headings | Ngā Upoko Tukutuku terms should be implemented as and when available.
  3. Retrospective changes to records are recommended to ensure consistency and support a nationwide standard of good practice.

Further information is available on the Ngā Upoko Tukutuku page.
