He angitūtanga: The opportunity
An opportunity has arisen within the Howick Local Board area, to take on the role of Manager Community Library, starting in the Botany library.
This is a fantastic opening for an experienced manager to contribute to the future of Auckland Libraries, taking on the management of a fast-paced library within a large retail complex.
As manager of a community library you’ll be responsible for its management, and in leading a team to provide a safe, welcoming environment and a professional frontline library service. With a real passion and focus on collaborating with your customers and meeting their needs, your remit will also include financial, staffing and operational management along with analysis and reporting requirements. You’ll also play a pivotal role in ensuring a strong and good working relationship with key stakeholders within the retail complex is maintained.

We need someone who can lead and inspire their team and who has the ability to mentor and develop the potential of their people. You’ll have led highly engaged teams and demonstrate the ability to lead a team through change successfully. As well as a passion for leading the delivery of excellent customer service, programmes and events to the local community, you’ll be able to connect your team to the strategic direction and vision of Libraries and Auckland Council.
Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will enable effective involvement in a range of community settings and events, and will be combined with the ability to develop and build strong stakeholder relationships, both internally and externally.
You’ll demonstrate a drive towards continuous improvement including utilising to the full all the resources available to you, and LIANZA professional registration would be an advantage.

Appointment to the role is made to the Howick Local Board area, with the expectation that you will work collaboratively across the three other sites within the Howick local board area.
Our libraries are open 6-7 days a week so flexibility around working hours and working rostered weekend days is required.
