Start time

Due to the programme content and length of the Mātauranga Māori within New Zealand Libraries workshop we ask that you arrive in time to start the workshop at 8:45am. This part of the workshop is called Taha Whanau where you will be met by the workshop presenters and the venue facilitator who will explain the tikanga (customs) of the local iwi (tribe) and hapū (sub tribe) in preparation for the pōwhiri (welcome). Taha Whanau is an opportunity for participants to ask questions particularly if you have never experienced a pōwhiri and/or been on a marae.

At 9:00am a karanga (call) will signal tangata whenua are ready to receive the group onto the marae where the rest of your day will continue.
