In August I attended WLIC (World Library and Information Congress) 2026 in Busan, South Korea and it was a privilege to stand alongside our library whānau that attended as well as receiving the manaakitanga of our Korean hosts.
As Tumuaki of Te Rōpū Whakahau, I was especially proud to see and hear Māori in the whare, and our leadership visible on the international stage. Unlike past years, when only a handful of us were able to attend, this year’s WLIC saw the largest number of delegates from Aotearoa.
Next year we expect numbers to grow as our Te Paea Paringatai takes up the Presidency during WLIC27, and IFLA’s 100th anniversary in London. I encourage you all to come and be part of this significant moment.
