Te Rōpū Whakahau at PLNZ Forum 2026

A number of our Ngā Kaiwhakahau komiti were in Ōtautahi last week for the Public Libraries of New Zealand Annual Forum for library managers. Jacqueline Snee and Maia Whiterod’s presentation at the forum reflected on the journey of Te Rōpū Whakahau from its establishment, role today and future aspirations. Te Paea Paringatai, President-Elect, IFLA, presented a global perspective of libraries collaborating and strengthening connections through challenging times which resonated with many in the public library sector. It was good to catch up with old friends and meet new colleagues, all of whom are facing the impact of proposed rates caps, amalgamation, dwindling budgets and service cuts. Challenging times for library leaders. As the whakatauki He Toka tū Moana reminds us, this is a time for us to be steadfast in our mahi.
